Do I need an API key?
For cloud providers, yes — your key, your account. TinySlate supports Anthropic Claude
(console.anthropic.com),
OpenAI (platform.openai.com),
Google Gemini (Google AI Studio),
plus OpenRouter, xAI, Groq, Together, Fireworks, Mistral, Hugging Face, DeepInfra, Qwen, and custom OpenAI-compatible base URLs.
Choose Ollama to run vision models on your Mac with no cloud key,
or Apple Vision for on-device scene labels with no API key at all.
Or skip AI entirely: set a watched folder to read file metadata only and TinySlate will pull titles and tags already in your files.
Can I search what’s said in a clip?
Yes. During analysis TinySlate transcribes spoken audio on-device with Apple’s Speech framework.
That transcript is stored with the clip and searchable alongside titles, keywords, summaries, and on-screen text.
The first time you analyze a clip with speech, macOS may ask for Speech Recognition permission.

Can I search text that appears on screen?
Yes. During analysis TinySlate can read signs, captions, titles, and overlays in sampled frames.
That on-screen text is stored with the clip and searchable alongside titles, keywords, summaries, and transcripts.

Not for every workflow. Apple Vision tags scenes on-device with no cloud call.
Ollama keeps analysis local if you run a vision model on your Mac.
On-device Speech transcription also runs locally — no cloud speech API.
Metadata-only import never needs a network for tagging.
Cloud providers still need internet when you choose them.
Richer on-device written summaries via Apple Foundation Models are coming soon for Apple Intelligence–eligible Macs.
Can I use TinySlate without AI?
Yes. On each watched folder you can choose Read file metadata only (no AI, no model cost) or Manual only (import filenames and organize yourself).
AI analysis is optional — useful when you want searchable titles and summaries, not required to build a library.
How does the free trial work?
The trial lasts 7 days or 50 analyzed clips, whichever comes first.
Switch providers freely — usage counts toward the same clip cap. After the trial, your library stays browsable; new analysis pauses until you activate a license.
Does TinySlate upload my footage?
No. Video files stay on your Mac. Cloud providers only receive small extracted frames for analysis; with Ollama, analysis can stay entirely local.
Which editors can I export to?
Final Cut Pro (FCPXML), Adobe Premiere Pro (XML), and DaVinci Resolve (EDL). Exports are non-destructive.
How do LUT and sound recommendations work?
TinySlate asks whichever AI provider you’ve connected to suggest LUTs and sound effects from your library that fit each clip’s mood and content.
Can I use TinySlate on multiple Macs?
Yes — one license covers your personal Macs. Enable iCloud sync to share the library.
